María Consuelo Mejía Piñeros
Executive Director, Catholics for the Right to Decide, Mexico
A Colombian/Mexican anthropologist with a Masters’ degree and doctoral studies in Latin American Studies from UNAM Mexico. She has longstanding experience in advocacy for the defense of women´s human rights, especially sexual and reproductive rights, from a feminist Catholic perspective. As political activist, she works nationally and internationally to counteract the negative influence of Catholic fundamentalisms on women´s rights
In 2010, she received the Award from the Mexico City Human Rights Commission and in 2011 was nominated by Women Deliver as one of the 100 most inspiring and committed women of the world. Since 1995, she is the Director of Catholics for the Right to Decide, a progressive faith based organization.
