Red-lipstick & Mini-Skirt March

28th February 2020

Location: Malawi

Date: 2020-03-02

On the 2nd of March, SheDecides Malawi plans to celebrate SheDecides Day by hosting a symbolic march Red- lipstick & Mini- skirt March in solidarity with everyone who believes in bodily autonomy.

A series of physical and sexual violent attacks towards women because of how they are dressed have become rampant in Malawi. SheDecides Malawi, believes a New Normal is deciding what to do without question, and that includes the liberty to decide what to wear without explaining that dressing and morality does not warrant consent or harassment. A silent symbolic March will see diverse women and men representing different demographics, in red lipstick and mini-skirts , silently carrying placards. The idea is to symbolize women deciding what to wear without question. A new normal is women wearing whatever they want and not being cat called, ridiculed or harassed. A new normal is body autonomy, A new normal is having men as allies. A new normal is the peace that comes with respecting women's choices. If this was the new normal, women would silently go about their business, without feeling the need to defend themselves.
