Governments are called upon to support the She Decides initiative, both financially and politically. Since the start of the initiative, many countries have already reacted in a positive way. Governments and foundations are encouraged to increase their funding to organisations that are confronted with budget cuts due to the Mexico City Policy. These contributions can be announced as a financial contribution in support of the She Decides initiative. Governments in the countries most affected are encouraged to step up the implementation of their policies on family planning and sexual health and increase their own budgets.
2 March: ministerial conference she decides
The Belgian government will host a ministerial conference ‘SheDecides’ on 2 March 2017 in Brussels. The Conference is hosted by Alexander De Croo, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Development Cooperation of Belgium and co-organized with Lilianne Ploumen, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of the Netherlands, Isabella Lövin, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for International Development Cooperation and Climate of Sweden and Ulla Tørnæs, Minister for Development Cooperation of Denmark in support of the Global Fundraising Initiative She Decides.
The international conference SHE DECIDES in Brussels is both an advocacy and a fundraising event. The aim is to join forces and rally financial support for those non-governmental organisations and UN agencies that make sexual and reproductive health and rights a reality for millions of women and girls by providing access to counselling, accurate and unbiased information, non-discriminatory comprehensive sexuality education, modern contraceptives, safe delivery, HIV testing and safe abortion care. These organisations support governments in providing good quality health-care services, including maternal care and neonatal services.
At the conference, the sexual and reproductive health and rights organisations will have the opportunity to explain their work. Women will testify about the crucial impact this work has on their lives. Ministers of Health, Women’s Rights and Development Cooperation, international organisations, non-governmental organisations, foundations and private companies will express their political and/or financial support, with the ambition to mitigate the impact of a decrease in funding for family planning.
Attendance of the conference is by invitation only. For further contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
