Government of Spain

Ana Alonso Giganto, Ambassador-at-Large for Feminist Foreign Policy

As a representative of the government of Spain, being a SheDecides Champion means to me working daily to ensure that women and girls in all their diversity enjoy their human rights around the world. Women's sexual and reproductive health and rights are fundamental to the full exercise of all other women's rights. Spain is a reference in the defence of sexual and reproductive health and rights at the national level, and has adopted a proactive approach in the defence of these rights at the international level, integrating these principles in its feminist foreign and cooperation policy.

How we are working so SheDecides

Spain firmly supports women’s sexual and reproductive rights and their bodily autonomy in all multilateral forums. It advocates for access to comprehensive sexual education, safe and legal abortion and quality healthcare. Through international development cooperation, Spain promotes gender equality, strengthens health systems, and ensures that women and girls can access free and informed decisions about their bodies and lives. Spain’s commitment is clear: empowering women is essential for sustainable development, human rights and global justice.
