Engagement

Rim is a women’s and children’s rights activist, currently working with an NGO in Lebanon to supply technical training for women and youth in Lebanon.

Background

Rim is a women’s and children’s rights activist, currently working with an NGO in Lebanon to supply technical training for women and youth in Lebanon. The training provides these vulnerable communities with better opportunities, and enables them to play a participatory role in the country’s national development process and decrease gender inequalities and stereotyping.

Previously She designed and provided psychosocial support and awareness sessions for women and girls of all ages. With the focus on topics relating to gender-based violence, human rights and risk mitigation, this work also involved supporting refugees and host communities in the most underprivileged areas of Lebanon.

Rim has also worked in government institutions to organise advocacy and awareness campaigns on women’s sexual abuse and implementing projects to economically empower women as small business owners. In this role she also helped with the review of existing laws on violence against women. Rim has also led workshops in high schools to raise awareness on violence against children and women, especially sexual abuse.

With a background in public health and development, Rim aspires to pursue a Masters in human rights and multi-level governance, and aims to create a framework that advances justice in public health, and expands the freedoms and privileges needed to realise dignity and equality for all.

Tell us briefly why you are passionate about being involved with SheDecides?

“A lot has been done in the past 25 years to advance women and girls’ rights on all levels.

However, here we are now, in 2020, and many still face injustices and inequalities. Being a member in the 25x25 is an opportunity to continue the fight for gender equality and raise the voices of women and girls in Lebanon and everywhere else.

With the right tools and knowledge, we can empower them to make their own decisions about their body, their life and their future, without question.”
