The fifth local SheDecides movement was launched on 2 March in Nairobi. The event brought together over 130 people from civil society, youth networks, private sector, development partners, media, faith based organisations and academia, as well as government. Firm commitments were made, with lots of excitement about how Kenyan comrades will take actions to drive change for women and girls.News & Updates

Naisola Likimani has been hired to lead the new team, and starts just before global SheDecides Day on 2 March 2019 - exactly 2 years since she organised a powerful event in Kenya at the same time as the Brussels pledging conference that birthed the movement.More Friends, more countries. The evidence is clear: when she decides about her body, when her rights are respected, her health, life and future – and those of her family, community and society - improve. This is at the core of the SheDecides movement, and backed up yet again by the UNFPA’s annual State of the World Population report, entitled: The Power of Choice. The report details findings across the globe pointing to evidence that when people have the power to control their fertility, they are healthier, happier and more likely to contribute positively to the community, the economy and society.“Choice can change the world. It can rapidly improve the well-being of women and girls, transform families and societies, and accelerate global development,” writes Dr Natalia Kanem - Executive Director of the UNFPA and a passionate supporter of SheDecides - in the report.
German Development Corporation supports SheDecides

At the 16th International Dialogue on Population and Development, which took place in Berlin on 23 + 24 October, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) announced its support for the SheDecides movement. The announcement was very well received by the over 100 international experts on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Right and Population Development gathered at the conference.
